Last minute

At the moment I am taking a break from making cakes. I made an exception with this cake as my colleague was looking for a vegetarian cake for a friend's birthday celebration.

Not many shops make vegetarian cakes and last minute, that can be a tall order.

Chequebook cake

Another cake for the same client. A birthday cake in the form of a chequebook for her husband. Unlimited love and hugs from his darling daughters!

Hearts of heart

This cake was made for one of my regular clients. Her family were celebrating their domestic helper's birthday.

Laura Calder

French Food at Home host was in town sometime back and I had a chance to meet her in person. To read about my experience with the celebrity chef, go to Kuali.com.

Cake Competition

Tropicana City Mall held a cake competition on Mother's Day. My sister-inlaw and her son were taking part and asked my daughter and me to take part as well.

In the beginning I was not too keen but then I said ok as it will be a great Mother's Day outing for the kids as well.

Sprinkle was the name of our team.

Contestants were provided with a 1kg butter cake and were given 40minutes to decorate the cake. The icing was also provided. All the other items including tools and decorative items were brought in by the contestants.

I am always used to working with butter icing and fondant. I didn't expect to be working with fresh cream which was very soft. Oh, no! It was my first experience working with fresh cream.

Somehow I managed to decorate the cake with it.

There were so many creative and beautiful cakes. When they announced the third and second prize winners, I thought to myself, what an experience! Now, we can have our tea.

When they announced the first prize winners, my daughter and I were speechless. Yes, Sprinkle won the top prize. My daughter was shy and reluctantly went up the stage to receive our prize.

We received a hamper worth RM1,000 worth of dining vouchers and products.

My other two kids were very excited. We decided to use the dining vouchers to have tea. We had about RM500 worth of dining vouchers and no we didn't burn all on tea. :)

All in all it was a memorable Mother's Day!

Judges deliberating.

My masterpiece.

Hello Kitty, Kitty!

Made this for a colleague's daughter's birthday. The four-year-old celebrated her birthday with her friends at her kindy.

She's a big fan of cat!

Celebrating a candle

During one of my visits to Bake with Yen, my son spotted this musical candle and insisted that I get it for him. Since his birthday is only in October, he couldn't wait to use the candle and insisted that I make a cake for him.

Whipped up a dozen cupcakes and he got everyone to blow the candle while it played the "Happy Birthday" music.

That made him a very happy boy. Simple joys in life! Little goes a long way in keeping the kids happy.

Jom Football Challenge

Cupcakes made for an IBM event.

Sponge Bob and Barbie

An interesting combination! Actually, this cake was ordered for a double celebration. The birthday gal loves Barbie and the boy loves Sponge Bob.

Liverpool, Liverpool, Liverpool

Parents are starting 'em young. Here's a cake for a fan who just turned one.

Kuali cupcakes

These cupcakes were made for Kuali.com's inhouse cupcake demonstration. The cupcakes were given as door gifts to participants. Something very simple.

Here comes Barbie...

and her three musketeers. A plain vanilla cake for a Barbie fan who turned seven recently.

Sweet and simple

A simple pink birthday cake.

The famous mouse

A chocolate flavoured cake for a one-year-old. Mickey Mouse was done using the buttercream transfer technique.

It's the Beetle!

I love this car and it is the birthday boy's favourite. This cake was made for the birthday boy's 70th birthday celebration.

He used to own a light blue classic Volkswagen.

Football, football, football

It's football mania! Yet another self-explanatory cake.

Football cake ... bring it on!

Here's another football cake as promised. A cake for five friends who share the same birthday.

And all of them, yes, you guessed it right, are Man United fans.

Three's a crowd

This clover-shaped cake was made to celebrate three birthdays. Each petal of the clover signifies the different interests of the birthday boy/gal.

This one's for the babe

Here's a baby shower cake for little Kenisha. I was quite surprised with the outcome of this cake, as I was really cracking my head on how to get the design right.

The figurine was store bought.

Football fever

Just like I promised earlier, here's another football-themed cake. This cake was for a one-year-old fan.

Last minute cake

I have done wedding and anniversary cakes but this takes the cake. Why? This order came in at the 11th hour.

The bride's sister found out that there was going to be no cake for the reception. So came the order. I have not done a cake in such short notice but I felt a bride should have a cake for her wedding and also because the bride's sister is such a sweet lady.

The order came in just the day before the reception.

A simple cake, a simple design. The cake topper was provided by the bride's sister.

Product launch

These cupcakes were made for an IBM product launch. All 100 of them. They were individually packed. A mix of vanilla and chocolate cupcakes.

Maybe everyone's gearing for World Cup 2010 or there are just too many football fans out there. Need I say more?

Watch this space for more football cakes in coming weeks.

Barbie and Princess Pauper

For a Barbie fan who loves blond barbies. This one's from the Barbie Princess series, Barbie and Princess Pauper.

Four-year-olds sure know what they want.

I what?

iCarly. I what? That was my first question when I first heard it from my kids a few years back. Found out that iCarly is a television series on Nickelodeon.

My first iCarly, two tier cake. This was for a nine-year-old fan. Plain vanilla flavour for both cakes.

Just blast it

BlastMaster, the people who bring lovely fireworks for major functions, celebrated their 21st anniversary recently.

This was a last minute cake. A two tier. The top layer was a fruit cake and the bottom a vegetarian chocolate cake.

Happy 21st Anniversary, BlastMaster!

I am a Gerrard fan

There have been so many request for football cakes and I am beginning to believe that I must be the only non football fan around.

This cake was for a Steven Gerrard fan. I don't think I have to mention his team...

On second thoughts, don't want Man U fans to think I am supporting their club either, it's a Liverpool cake!

Simple as can be

One of my simplest birthday cake I have ever made. For a young lady who celebrated her 29th birthday recently.

A Dibo cake

Did you know that there is a cartoon called Dibo the Gift Dragon? I didn't until I was asked to make this cake.

I learn something new, well at least on Astro's cartoon channel, whenever I am asked to do such cakes.

The birthday gal wanted a heart-shaped Dibo cake with lots of candy on it. The person who placed this order was her aunt who said that the family wanted rich moist choc cake with fudge.

I would have made the cake even more colourful if not for the choc fudge topping. Nevertheless, it was colourful!

Ferrero Rocher cake

I made this for a Ferrero Rocher fan. Even though it is decorated with FR, the cake itself is the rich moist chocolate cake.

To tell you the truth, I almost wanted to have this cake all to myself. :)

Man United again!

My latest football cake. Yet another Man United cake! Looks like there are lots of Man U fans out there. :)

This cake was for a 30-year-old fan.

Yeah Mickey!

One of my all-time favourite cartoon characters, Mickey Mouse. I still love Mickey Mouse until this day.

In fact, when we went to Disneyland in LA two years ago, my kids just couldn't understand why I was so excited to see Mickey Mouse. They were even more puzzled when I wanted to take photo with Mickey Mouse. I guess they are not fans of the mouse.

Anyway, it was a joy making this cake for a little boy who turned two on Monday.

Barbie and the three musketeers

Since when Barbie became part of the Three Musketeers? And that's exactly what I thought when I was asked to make this cake.

Apparently, Barbie and The Three Musketeers is 2009 movie and part of the Barbie film series. It was released on DVD on September 15, 2009.

This cake was for little Tarisna who's favourite colours are pink and purple.

Arsenal cupcakes

Yeah!!! Finally, I get to do something other than Man United and Liverpool cakes. Like I have said before, I am no football fan but I am just like anyone else. I want to do something different.

These Arsenal cupcakes were requested by Radha for her 15-year-old sister.
