Yeah Mickey!

One of my all-time favourite cartoon characters, Mickey Mouse. I still love Mickey Mouse until this day.

In fact, when we went to Disneyland in LA two years ago, my kids just couldn't understand why I was so excited to see Mickey Mouse. They were even more puzzled when I wanted to take photo with Mickey Mouse. I guess they are not fans of the mouse.

Anyway, it was a joy making this cake for a little boy who turned two on Monday.

Barbie and the three musketeers

Since when Barbie became part of the Three Musketeers? And that's exactly what I thought when I was asked to make this cake.

Apparently, Barbie and The Three Musketeers is 2009 movie and part of the Barbie film series. It was released on DVD on September 15, 2009.

This cake was for little Tarisna who's favourite colours are pink and purple.

Arsenal cupcakes

Yeah!!! Finally, I get to do something other than Man United and Liverpool cakes. Like I have said before, I am no football fan but I am just like anyone else. I want to do something different.

These Arsenal cupcakes were requested by Radha for her 15-year-old sister.

Hey, Spidey!

If you have ever baked using a character mould like I did for this cake, you know it is quite simple. Simple because all the details of the character will be on the cake and you just have to ice it accordingly.

It can go wrong as well! It is any baker's nightmare if the details are not retained after the cake is baked. And that's exactly what happened to me.

When I removed the cake from the pan, a very thin layer of cake was stuck to the pan. The part that was stuck was Spidey's face and hands. Basically, the main part of the character. Arrrgghhh!!!

Due to this, I had a hard time trying to figure out the bumps and the lines on the cake. Luckily, I had the picture of Spidey in colour.

It took me awhile to ice the cake, much much longer than it should have been, but eventually I got there.

The birthday boy's parents were happy with the cake. And I was delighted! Only if they knew what I had been through!

BTW, this cake was for a three-year-old Spiderman fan.

For a rugby fan

This cake travelled all the way to Singapore. My sister inlaw's nephew is a rugby player in school. They wanted something simple to celebrate his brithday.

New year cakes

The two cakes that marked the new year were for my kids' taekwondo friends.

Three kids shared the Manchester United cake while the taekwondo character cake was for a young lady. The cakes were cut after a taekwondo award ceremony.

Happy 2010!!!!

Yes, I am slightly late wishing everyone a Happy New Year. I have been busy with a new commitment beginning this year. But that's not going to stop me from doing what I love.

I was actually planning to just chill and do nothing on Jan 1. But I had committed to deliver two cakes on Jan 2 and I was baking and decorating on new year's day.

My mom and grandma used to say that if you start the new year by doing something, either positive or negative, you will be doing it throughout that year.

What a lovely start to 2010! :)
